Terms and Conditions for Permanent change of address- Temporary redirection - Safekeeping of mail
1. General
The services are carried out in accordance with these delivery terms and conditions based on the agreement between the customer and Posten Norge AS (Posten).
The service agreement is considered to be entered into when Posten has received an order with correct and complete information and Posten has sent confirmation to the customer.
The services can be used by private customers and can include one or more persons or everyone in the household. The services can also be used by business customers who are established in Norway and must then include all mail addressed to the business at the specified address. If the business has several address, a separate order must be supplied for each address if necessary.
Managers of the estate of a deceased or bankrupt person can order Temporary redirection of mail that is addressed to a deceased or bankrupt person.
The services cannot be used for private mail addressed to companies (workplaces) or institutions (hospitals, schools, hotels, boarding schools, etc.) or mail addressed to Poste Restante.
2. Permanent change of address
A permanent change of address means registration of a new permanent postal address and redirection of mail from the old to the new postal address within Norway or abroad.
Redirection of addressed letter post including:
- Letters
- Small packets
- Registered letters
- Insured letters
- A postal subscription for newspapers and magazines
Parcels will only be redirected if the mail recipient requests this. The fee for redirecting parcels must be paid by the mail recipient on delivery.
The following exceptions apply:
- Items with contents (objects) that must be declared to customs will not be redirected abroad.
- Items with Electronic Address Updates (EA) will not be redirected if the agreement between the sender and Posten includes the provision "Should not be redirected to a permanent change of address" abroad for a Permanent change of address.
Redirection can be ordered for up to 14 months. When the redirection period has expired, items addressed to the old address will be returned to sender.
Ordering deadline:
Ordering via posten.no: 4 working days.
Handed in to a post office/post-in-shop: 8 working days.
3. Temporary redirection
Temporary redirection means that post will be redirected to a temporary postal address within Norway or abroad during the agreed period.
Redirection of addressed letter post including:
- Letters
- Small packets
- Registered letters
- Insured letters
- A postal subscription for newspapers and magazines
Parcels will only be redirected if the mail recipient requests this. The fee for redirecting parcels must be paid by the mail recipient on delivery.
The following exceptions apply:
- Items with contents (objects) that must be declared to customs will not be redirected abroad.
Redirection can be ordered for up to six months at a time. At the end of this period, the mail will be withheld until it can be delivered to a permanent address again (within Norway: two working days, Europe: one week, rest of the world: two weeks).
Application deadlines:
Ordering via posten.no: 4 working days.
Handed in to a post office/post-in-shop: 8 working days.
4. Storage
Storage of mail means that mail will not be delivered but will be stored by Posten for the agreed period. If requested, the customer can have mail delivered during the time it is being stored.
Storage includes addressed letter post:
- Letters
- Small packets
- A postal subscription for newspapers and magazines
Items that must be signed for and collected at the post office/post-in-shop, will be returned to sender when the collection deadline has expired. This applies even if the storage period continues and for the following items:
- Registered letters
- Insured letters
- Cash on delivery (COD)
- Parcels
Storage can be ordered for up to three months. A new agreement can be entered into for up to a total of a continuous six-month storage period.
On the first working day after the expiry of the agreed period, the mail will be delivered to the customer’s permanent postal address. If this involves large amounts of mail, the customer will receive a message in the post box and must collect their mail from their permanent collection location. Valid ID must be presented.
Application deadlines:
Ordering via posten.no: 2 working days
Ordering by telephone: 4 working days
Handed in to a post office/post-in-shop: 5 working days.
Delivering stored mail: 2 working days.
5. Changes to the service ordered
The customer can cancel the service 1 day prior to the start date at the latest. In order top receive a refund,the customer must contact Customer Service before the agreed start date.
The customer can stop the service prior to the agreed end date. No refund will be given.
The customer can extend a future service as well as a service already started. Costs will be charged for the extension.
A new order must be placed if the customer wish to change to a new address on a registered change of address.
6. Prices and payment terms
Information about prices can be found at posten.no for private individuals and at bring.no for businesses.
Services ordered online must be paid for by card. Services ordered at the post office, post-in-shop or by phone are charged by invoice.
7. Handling personal information
It is necessary for the distribution of post that all post recipients are registered in the Norway Post Address Register. Norway Post will not ask for the consent of the persons registered. Information is handled in accordance with the Personal Data Act.
Customers must provide their national identity number when ordering a change of address service. The national identity number is required for security reasons, and is essential for the identification of the customer.
The Norway Post Address Register is regularly updated against the National Registry when it comes to national identity numbers, name changes and deceased persons. Postal addresses are not updated against the National Registry.
Address information will be used for the updating of private and official registers. This applies to registers in which the customer is already listed.
Post recipients may contact Customer Service in writing in order to place a reservation to opt out of having their postal addresses used in connection with updating their addresses.
Post recipients may contact Customer Service in writing to receive information about what information is listed in the Address register and to have any errors corrected.
8. Responsibility
Norway Post's liability for change of address services is limited to the price of the services ordered. Norway Post is not liable for any consequential losses.
This liability is limited to mail items that are distributed by Norway Post.
